Most handguns are far more mechanically accurate than the average shooter. The main limitation is the precision of the sights. A longer barrel allows the sights to be placed farther apart (increased sight radius), reducing the angular deviation when they are not perfectly aligned. Laser sights do not rely on the alignment of a front and rear sight, and several shooters have demonstrated the inherent accuracy of small, snub-nose revolvers by shooting targets at 100 yards using laser sights.
The lightest S&W handgun is the 351PD. It weighs a mere 10.8 oz, and carries 7 rounds of .22 magnum. The 342PD is no longer in production, but is scarcely heavier at 11 ounces unloaded, and carries 5 rounds of .38 Special. S&W also makes a number of larger pistols chambered in .357 magnum and .44 magnum with Scandium frames. These are actually aluminum frames alloyed with a small amount (< 10%) of scandium, a very rare and expensive mineral.
Scandium revolvers command a premium price, and many shooters find them difficult to shoot without flinching, as light weight produces harsher recoil.
The most accurate S&W handguns without regard for weight would be the Model 41 .22 target pistol, or the Performance Center 952 target pistol.
